Our club was founded by members of the Magnolia Junior Charity League in 1958. Founded as the Boys Club of Magnolia, the purpose of the ladies of the Charity League was to provide an organization to promote the health, social, educational, and character development of the boys in our community. The Club was originally located in a private home that was donated to the organization. We moved into our current facility in 1970. Though founded as an organization for boys, it soon began serving the girls of our community and in 1988 officially became the Boys & Girls Club of Magnolia.
The Club is considered a traditional Boys & Girls Club. We have six baseball/softball fields, soccer field, batting cages, football field, and a 30,000 sq. ft. building. Our building includes a game room, library, teen room, computer room, TV room, arts & crafts room, concession stands, kitchen, and 2 gymnasiums.
Mission
To assure and enhance the quality of life for boys and girls as participating members of a richly diverse society, with special concern for the disadvantaged. To help young people to realize their potential, and to demonstrate that adults care for young people and truly desire to help them grow into contributing human beings.
Impact of United Way
The United Way of Columbia County provides us with about 10% of our total operating budget. It is an integral part of our mission to serve the youth of Magnolia and Columbia County. Our Club has about 1000 members and each day serves between 300 and 350 children ages 6-14 in our after school program. Of this number almost 40% receive free or reduced meals.
Our policy of not turning any child away regardless of their families’ financial situation would be impossible without the support of the United Way. The aid and assistance of the United Way has made it possible for us to provide a safe haven for thousands of children over the last 30 years.
We are proud and grateful for the care that the United Way of Columbia County has shown our program and our community.
